Oredon
New integrated bicycle components
Nielsen Innovation has been Oredon’s partner from the very beginning. We have helped Oredon with the creation of the brand, the corporate identity as well as the product design identity.
Participating in think tanks aiming at assessing the very nature of the new products, their relevance, and eventually at choosing the right solution was also part of Nielsen Innovation’s contribution.
Nielsen Innovation has continuously interacted with Oredon’s engineers and marketers in order to ensure a coherent range of products. This collaboration has led to various anti-theft bike accessories like FreeLock, ie ergonomic products aiming at reinforcing the safety of the bikes. Lately, Nielsen Innovation also assisted Oredon in the creation of another bike component, Freepark, to facilitate the storage of the bike.
FreeLock
It is the first anti-theft device integrated into a multifunctional stem. One turn of key is enough to provide a top level anti-theft protection. Another turn of key solves the bike storage issue once and for all.
Where most designers would have tried to lock the stem in one position (as on cars & motorbikes), Oredon decided to disconnect the handlebar from the fork and the front wheel. This solution provides a very safe protection because riding the bike becomes impossible: Freelock's unlocking system can't be forced and therefore can't be broken!
Moreover, the locking/unlocking principle was extended to provide a really convenient storage and transportation solution.
Riding, parking and storing a bike have never been so easy!
FreePark
Considering Freelock’s success and the great enthusiasm for its parking/storage feature, Oredon developed FreePark. Nielsen Innovation - worked specifically on FreePark’s ergonomics. This new product is using the existing Freelock technology and offers an exclusive function. The parking/storage function is clearly understood at first sight. As a consequence, the product is easy and intuitive to operate.
We also contributed in creating the design of FreePark’s whole range of products. As an OEM part, FreePark's design had to offer a strong identity and emphasize its new feature. At the same time, it had to integrate nicely into various bicycle types from different brands.
